Day 5...."You have lost alot of weight"

"You have lost a lot of weight", Said my dearest husband this morning as we drove to work from home. This was very encouraging to hear from a man who rarely comments on such issues.

Today I will drink a lot of green tea and water. I didn't get the time to make juice last night but I do have some left over juice (carrot, cucumber, beetroot).

I have introduced my 11 month old son to juicing. I usually make carrot and orange juice for him. Yesterday I put in a tiny bit of ginger just to assist with his cold and the baby sitter told me he gulped it all! Boy was I glad! I already saw some improvement in the cough...he didn't cough as much last night. For some reason I cannot locate the pic of the juice bottle for my baby but I will publish as soon as I get it.

What made me sad today?

Mandela, the anti-apartheid icon has died.

What made me happy today?

"You have lost a lot of weight" words from my dearest husband.

Note of encouragement to my self

This is the only diet that has worked for me and I will push till the end.

Happy Day all and juice on!

Day 4...Stored Energy

Still here and happy about it.

Tomorrow is my last day at my current work place. I am joining another Bank,so, I had to leave my colleagues some "Before" pics so that they can note the difference later when I send them "After" pics.

Am so excited about the weight loss. I checked on my scale this morning and I had shifted from 112.8 kg to somewhere between 111 and 112 kgs( My scale is not digital). So that's 111.5 Kg. So I believe I have lost about a Kg. I will share with you when I check on another scale which I used to measure my starting weight. Its digital and its at my child's under 5 clinic. Below are the pics I took today:

Note of Encouragement to myself

There is a lot of stored energy in my body and I do not need to consume a lot for me to exercise.

Day 3...You are what you eat

I am still going strong...

I borrowed this picture from Phil Staples facebook page. Phil is an inspiration to me (and my sister Katongo). He was helped by Joe Cross to lose weight. If you wanna lose weight, please watch the documentary Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead as soon as you can...please please please.

In the film, Phil Staples is a truck driver that Joe comes across at a truck stop, who is obese at 429 pounds (194.59 kgs), who eventually calls Joe for help. Both Joe and Phil visit their doctors in the very beginning to get an initial checkup, then get periodic testing to monitor their conditions.
Just in the first 5 days, Phil loses 17 pounds. By the end of his 61-day juice fast, he loses 95 pounds (43.09 Kgs) and he continues to lose weight, losing a total of 202 pounds after 10 months. This is just awesome!

Juicing is not for the weight watchers only but will help with your skin and just to have a healthy lifestyle of consuming more fruit and vegetables

Contents Of Today's Juice

35 leaves of spinach
5 beetroots
1 butternut

This made me 1000 ml of juice.

What I was sad about today

My son hasn't been well. He has a horrible cough. Took him to the doc and was given cough syrup. I pray he feels better.

I didn't do my morning jog,not only because I had to prepare my son early in the morning to take him to the clinic, but I didn't set the alarm correctly.

What made me happy today

The fact that I am on day 3 and still going strong. Making a juice plan for tomorrow makes it even more interesting :)

Note of encouragement to myself

Its not too late for me to lose weight...and I wont regret having not started it sooner. This is the moment...this is the time. I will do it!

Day 2: Someone Will Always Be There To Help...

So this is the 2nd day of season 2...Like I said. I've done this before and results were tremendous in season 1.

I felt very energetic yesterday after consuming only juice...so my curiosity made me calculate how many calories I'd actually consumed: 6 cucumbers(271 calories), 4 beets (142 calories),Half of butternut(23 calories),2 oranges (123 calories),1 bunch of Chinese cabbage (18 calories),2 tomatoes (44 calories),5 carrots (125 calories),Ginger.

Ruth,my work mate, has been following my juice fast. She's been seeing me with bottles of juices and watches me as I gulp the rather strange contents. She was kind enough to bring me a bag of fresh spinach from her garden and 12 leaves made me 900ml of juice.

Spinach received from Ruth

Contents Of Today's Juice

6 ripe mangoes
2 oranges
4 carrots
4 cucumbers
15 spinach leaves

What I was sad about today

The very expensive juicer, a brand which I won't mention, is not as effective as my affordable Phillips juicer. The former leaves so much wet pulp which makes me wonder whether I actually squeezed all the juice out of my produce.

Pulp from my Phillips juicer (Very dry)
Very wet pulp. (Can you see all the liquid?)

The expensive juicer is good because of its large mouth. You therefore don't need to cut veges before you juice them

What I was happy about today

I woke up early at 5am to do my 20minute run. I always do it in the evening but being the only cook at home,by the time am done with dinner preps,I'm too tired to run. According to my Nike + iPod kit, I ran 2.75 km  and burnt only 318 calories. Little by Little, I will increase the pace. :)

Nike + iPod app on my iPod.

Note of encouragement to Myself

People will always be there to support me...like Ruth. I can do this! Juice on!

In the beginning...

In October 2013,after watching Fat Sick and  Nearly Dead, a Joe Cross movie, I was determined to give it a try. The "I  just had a baby" excuse for weight gain was just not going to be valid anymore. I became a major follower of Joe Cross very well organised webpage  and thanks to my sister, Katongo Chilufya Elliott who encouraged me tremendously. She gave me positive criticism..."You used to look good in Jeans when you were smaller" She would say. I had to get my body back...So I turned to Juicing.

Within a few weeks of consistent juicing, I lost 4Kgs (about 8.13 pounds). "So this actually works", I thought to myself. I saw a significant difference in my waist line and my appetite for meaty and oily staff just reduced dramatically.

I come from Africa, a country called Zambia. The country is booming with fast food centers at every corner..we have the usual Wimpy, KFCs, Hungry Lion,Subway etc. If you are seen eating from such places, you are considered a middle to high net worth individual. We have a few healthy eating centers dotted here and there like Umoyo. I have never really tried out Umoyo but I appreciate their concept. I wish we had more of such. Anyway, I am married (happily married sometimes..lol Hope dear Hubby doesn't see this :)  ) and I have an 11 month old baby. I am currently at 112.8 Kgs, I was 116.8 Kgs before October. What amazes me is that I have managed to keep the 4Kg off even after taking a break from the juice fast.

My goal weight (and ideal weight for my height)

Based on the Robinson formula (1983), my ideal weight is 67.5 kgs
Based on the Miller formula (1983), my ideal weight is 67.9 kgs
Based on the Devine formula (1974),my ideal weight is 70.5 kgs
Based on the Hamwi formula (1964),my ideal weight is 69.4 kgs
Based on the healthy BMI recommendation, my recommended weight is 59.9 kgs - 81.0 kgs

I will stick to the Devine formula. I intend to be at 70.5 Kg as goal weight.

I first juiced religiously for 25 days in September and had to break the fast because I had to travel for work. I am now starting again. Juicing in December is very tricky and I hope and pledge commitment to myself for my own good. I intend to break the fast on 31st December 2013 in good time to taste my sons 1st birthday cake.

I will keep you posted every day that I can...although I am not a good writer so I will summarize my blogs. Juicing is easy..and its fun. Thanks to Joe Cross' recipes, your juices wont lack creativity.

The recommendation is to have 4-6 500 mls of juice per day. Its as easy as below:

1. Wash the fruits and vegetables thoroughly before cutting them. To kick start my juice fast, I will juice 6 cucumbers, 4 beets,Half of butternut,2 oranges,1 bunch of Chinese cabbage,2 tomatoes,5 carrots,Ginger. This will give me 2 liters of juice.

2. The produce must be cut to fit into my juicer

Philips Juicer

500 ml bottles

3. And stored into the freezer to preserve it!

So this is it! All about Juicing for weight loss. Stick with me until next time....Juice On!
